I will always find Snow Dog to be my one and only favorite book. It is a facinating book and I wish that the books of Jim Kjelgaard would be more widely known and read. I think it is a shame that Jim Kjelgaard’ s stories are not well known, or even he is. I just would like to say that I think his books are the best.

This book was both adventurous and funny. I really liked this book. The little pup named Chiri became lonely but learned to live by himself. Then he grows up and kills the black wolf. Not only does he get revenge but he also gets respect from the black wolf’s pack.

I noted one reviewer who was 51, and another who was 10. I too am 51, and probably first read Jim Kjelgaard’s books when I was between 10 and 13. They engendered a love for reading and for the outdoors which I’ve never lost. My first one was Lion Hound. Perhaps my favorite of all the dogs in all the books, however, was Chiri, both in Snow Dog and Wild Trek. Snow Dog still ranks as one of my favorite books. I read it some months ago, for the first time in at least 30 years, and although it is a bit of a child’s book, I still enjoyed this story and the nostalgia of re-reading it. I am pleased to see young readers still become captivated by it. I must have read every book he wrote when I was young and they were readily available in the libraries. It’s a shame they aren’t in print anymore. This is a simply spectacular book. Chiri, the Black Wolf, Link Stevens and the Gander. I remembered these, and most of the story, before I re-read the book. It is truly unforgettable.
